MEMPHIS in Pictures . 1940

This Memphis Photo book was published by George C. Bridges in 1940.  The photos are by W. Hayley and Frank Hitchings.  There are 140 pages in the book and all but 4 pages are full of photos covering every aspect of life in Memphis.  Take a look at the "unintentional racist caption" on the last photo in the book (page 140).  When this book was reprinted in 1985 and renamed "Memphis in Pictures - the Thirties", the caption on the last photo was changed.  All 140 pages are posted here exactly as they appeared in the original book.

We have tried to locate the publisher and the photographers without success.  Periodically this book will appear for sale at Amazon or at Used Book stores.  This book is in the collection of Gene Gill.
